Basement Conversions

One of the most cost-effective solutions to meeting the increasing demand for additional living accommodation is to convert an existing damp basement into habitable rooms, or to create a basement within a new dwelling during construction.

Climatic change has also increased the incidence of flooding to a number of properties which would previously have been at low risk of such catastrophic occurrences.

It is therefore essential that any work below ground level takes into account worst case scenarios that could involve flooding from rising ground water. ProTen Services has developed the skills and techniques over the years to provide basement waterproofing systems using advanced drainage techniques, with the option of cemetitious systems where appropriate.

Tanking & Basement Waterproofing

The drainage systems we provide are the most sympathetic methods of dealing with water flowing into the property and do not exert any forces on the structure which could result in failure of the masonry. Internally, the walls are lined with cavity drainage membranes, which are mechanically fixed to the walls, thus providing a dry surface to fix proprietary lining systems to accommodate a conventional finish.

These basement waterproofing systems are the method most favoured by the British Standard Code of Practice for Below Ground Structural Waterproofing, BS 8102.

As basements are particularly susceptible to containing high concentrations of the naturally occurring radon gas, we have developed the patented ADD Waterproofing System; a combined waterproofing and radon control system specifically for basements. A revision to BS 8102 was published in November 2009, which now requires all basement waterproofing schemes to be designed taking radon into account.
